Finally done.

At long last, the desk is finished.

The design is quite unusual; in fact, I have never seen one like it.  I will leave to you a reaction to how it looks but it does seem to function well.  I spent thousands of hours at my rolltop desk during my career and I know first hand how important it is that your desk functions well.  Add to that the limited space available in a small Bay area apartment and you have a real challenge.  I tried to combine the classic arts and crafts library table with the basic elements of the interior of a rolltop desk.

  1. Andy, that's really, really nice. Clean lines with enough details to make it visually interesting.

  2. I think you pulled it off Andy. Do the back bottom rails double as a book shelf?

    1. I didn't intend them that way Ralph, but I think they could be used that way.

  6. Andy, you said "small Bay area apartment" -- as in San Francisco Bay Area? If so we should get together some time and make saw benches or sharpen tools. I'm near Santa Cruz.

    1. He lives in Oakland and I live in Portland, Oregon but I come to visit him frequently and would really enjoy meeting you. I am very impressed by the breadth and skill you bring to woodworking.
